The office of deacon as described in the scriptures is one of sympathy and service. Deacons help meet the needs of people both in the congregation and in the community. At First Presbyterian Church, the Deacons are organized into seven teams:

Support - support various people, including guests, at worship services

Transportation - provides rides as needed to the church

Cards - prepares cards that are sent to members for birthdays, new babies, get well, and sympathies

Prayer Chain - organizes prayer requests for prayer chain members to pray about

Hospital Visitation - visit people in local hospitals
-
Caring Connection - coordinates short-term care services to members who are ill or unable to take care of some of their needs

Shepherds - visit members and friends who live in local care centers and nursing homes or who are homebound
