Discernment on Same-Gender Marriage
The Special
Committee on Same-Gender Marriage expresses deep gratitude to our
dedicated and faithful fellow members of the church who either attended
a discernment small group, spoke with Pastor Sam, spoke with a member of
Session, spoke with a member of the Special Committee, prayed for
understanding, and/or prayed for our congregation and this process
during the past several months. While our members thankfully hold a wide
variety of perspectives, it has been humbling to see so many thoughts
and ideas expressed in a loving manner.
Over 50% of the
worshipping congregation attended the discernment small groups. Session
listened to this feedback and deliberated many long hours about how to
approach this issue in a manner fitting to what God was calling us to do
in this time, in this place. Session also reviewed and discussed several
overtures to be sent to Presbytery. Two letters were sent to the
congregation and three overtures were endorsed to be sent to
Presbytery.
