For Women

Women are a lively and essential part of life at First Presbyterian Church. Women serve in leadership roles in all aspects of the church. Women also find various ways to connect to other women. One of those ways is through our Presbyterian Women group.

What is Presbyterian Women?

Presbyterian Women (PW):

  • Elects its own leadership. This is called the Coordinating Team and it meets at 9:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month in Coover Lounge except for June, July and August.

  • Plans and implements a yearly program and determines its own budget.

  • Meets in circles and maintains ongoing activities decided by each group.

  • Supports the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) worldwide.

  • Develops the leadership abilities of women.

  • Recognizes its accountability to the Session, including an annual report with a financial record.

  • Preserves historical records of PW.

  • Maintains connections with PW at other governing body levels.

  • Benefits from the services of the PW Enabler assigned to it as a link with PW in the Presbytery.

  • Encourages support of, and participation in, ecumenical organizations such as Church Women United.

Join us as we commit ourselves:

  • to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,

  • to support the mission of the church worldwide,

  • to work for justice and peace, and

  • to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.

Recent News

A new mission project was introduced in October 2010 that benefited the children of our 5th grade Church School Class.  Enough money was raised at ONE event to present a $100 Campership to Camp Wyoming to each of our 5th grade students for 2011.  This will be an on-going campaign.

Even though the Cookie Walk was held on the rainiest day of December, people still turned out in droves to purchase the “best Christmas Cookies in town.”  Over $2,800 was raised in the 2 and ½ hour event.  While cookies were being sold by the dozens and customers were browsing the many items in the mini-bazaar, the Saturday Knitting Group was busy downstairs boxing up hand-knitted items to deliver to ten different charities.  Projects were hats, mittens, scarves, children’s sweaters, helmet liners for soldiers, specialty winter wear for artic fishermen, preemie hats and chemo hats for UIHC.  This group of dedicated women also make Prayer Shawls.  Sixteen were distributed in 2010.  For more information about this group contact Carol Macon (351-3847) or Tammy Schroeder.
